Adult Bicycles

Choosing an adult bicycle for all

Bicycles are one of the most ubiquitous forms of transportation in the world. Most children remember their first bike; with it came the chance to explore their world with more freedom than ever before. As we grow, however, bicycling becomes more than just a childhood rite of passage. Wind in our hair and feet on the pedals, we have several good reasons to climb on and take a trip. Much of the world uses bicycles as a primary form of daily transportation. What would take several hours of travel on foot becomes faster and more efficient on two wheels. Some cyclists take trips across entire states, or cross country solely on a bicycle. Reaching speeds of 15 miles or 30 km an hour is achievable by even beginning cyclists, while more experienced riders can reach speeds equivalent to automobile travel. "Century riders" travel 100 miles or more within a typical day. Not to be constrained by simple transportation, bicycles (stationary and otherwise) have helped people become healthier by losing excess weight and improving cardiovascular fitness. The exercise benefits of cycling are well known. Using the largest muscles in the body, bicycling allows riders to reach aerobic heart rates that drive up metabolism, and give a good workout. With the relative newcomer in the bicycle world, mountain bikes, this form of transportation is taking us on rugged terrain once thought impassable by anything other than hiking boots or pack animals. Extreme sport enthusiasts have adapted the bicycle to perform gravity defying stunts, such as flips and mid air acrobatics, in a style known as BMX (standing for Bicycle Motorocross). In short, bikes remain a popular way to get people between points A and B, whether those destinations are found on a map, from one state of health to another, or to explore the unknown.
Bicycles have become an important part of the landscape. Most people get what we mean when we say that it's "as easy as riding a bike." Or we understand that some dormant skill is easy to pick back up if it's "just like riding a bike." Likewise, many immediately think of bicycles when we make an allusion to "coasting" "picking up speed" or "going downhill." Bicycles are the most efficient intermediary step between feet and motorized travel.

Baby cycles

Overview
Taking care of a baby or toddler is often plenty of exercise for parents. However, if that's not enough, riding with your baby in a bike trailer can be an entertaining way to get exercise --- and get your baby out in the fresh air. Because there are dangers associated with baby bike trailers, it is important to observe safety precautions and measures.

Find the Right Fit

According to the ConsumerReports website, it is important to find a bike trailer that fits both your bike and your child. Put your child into the seat to ensure that she fits safely and comfortably. Test the bike trailer if possible, either in the store or by borrowing a friend's bike trailer. Make sure that the trailer can be safely mounted on your bicycle --- some trailers will not properly fit on bikes with disc brakes or oversized tires.

Be sure that your bike trailer can be easily noticed by motorists, pedestrians and other bikers. Install a safety flag over the trailer so that it is easy to spot. Attach a light and reflectors to the trailer so that it is visible even at night. Always use hand signals when you are riding, turning or stopping --- this will ensure that all motorists understand your intentions and give you and the trailer plenty of room to maneuver.

Practice Safety

Ensure that you and all riders are wearing a properly fitting helmet --- even your baby. Babies as young as 12 months old should wear a helmet that fits snugly on the head without tilting or rocking. Make sure that the helmet straps are adjustable so that you can snugly tighten them beneath the chin. Do not use used helmets or those that have been involved in a previous accident. This can lessen the helmet's effectiveness and structure.

Physical Limitations

Make sure that your baby is physically ready to ride in a bike trailer. The Babycenter website recommends waiting until your baby can sit up on his own steadily, and able to support the weight of his head with control of his neck. Because there are no specific rules to determine if your baby is ready to ride in a bike trailer, check with your pediatrician to make sure it is safe for your child.

Tricycles

Getting about on a bicycle is environmentally friendly, great for your health and cost effective. One drawback – particularly for those learning to ride or for whom balance is an issue – is the instability that comes with being on two wheels at low speeds. Tricycles offer a way to overcome this problem, but three-wheelers have their own set of stability issues when it comes to cornering at higher speeds. Like the Deliver-E Trike we looked at earlier this year, the Swingtrike aims to provide a best of both world solution by employing a tilting design that keeps all wheels on the ground across bumpy terrain and through corners, making it safer – and more fun – than traditional fixed frame trikes.

Ladies Bicycle

Ladies Bicycles

Looking for the latest top rated ladies bicycles, then you have come to the right place.
Ladies bikes are not only a great way to exercise.

How is a Ladies Bicycle Different From the Others?

A ladies bicycle can be a very different machine to one used by a man – think sloping top bar, upright sitting position of the rider, perhaps a small basket on the front of the handlebars containing a small puppy or bunch of flowers. How very twee. On the other hand, many modern ladies bicycles do not live up to that mawkish gender stereotype, and a casual passer-by might not realise the bike is designed specifically for the girls, as it looks so similar to the men’s version. The important thing when choosing a bicycle is that it is right for you, whether you are a girl or a boy. For you, a nice ladies bicycle with basket might be a dream come true. Or you might prefer to get togged up in a racing skinsuit and helmet and burn up the road

Whatever your age and cycling preferences, one lady that cannot be fought against is Mother Nature. By design, women tend to have shorter arms and a shorter torso than men, so the best ladies bicycle will have features built into it which take account of this. Specifically, the distance between the handlebars and the saddle tends to be shorter; this allows the female rider to control the bike better without overstretching, and of course this also helps to prevent any needless injuries and muscle strains.
On vintage ladies bicycles – the old, heavy ones with the baskets – the top tube slopes diagonally downwards from handlebars to seat tube. Incidentally, you can still get this design today, because whatever your age, you might simply want to ride for pleasure or to get from A to B. In this case you will not want to get dressed up in racing lycra, but prefer to keep the long skirt, and hey presto! That’s why there are bikes with the diagonal top tube. From a design point of view, it also helps to close the gap between saddle and handlebars, and allows the rider to sit upright rather than having to lean forwards when cycling.
Specialized bicycles for ladies will also have other features that distinguish them from the men’s models. Usually the handlebars are slightly narrower to accommodate the girls’ smaller shoulder width; smaller hands mean that short-reach brake levers are a must for safety. Ladies bicycle saddles tend to be wider, often with a central cutout, and some are padded, whereas others achieve extra comfort by the use of rear shocks, smoothing out a road otherwise covered in cracks and potholes!
Oh, and finally, it is a brave guy who would venture out on a pink bicycle decorated with little pretty flowers – so we are back at that gender stereotype again! Color schemes are one of the marketing, and let’s face it, cosmetic differences between men’s and ladies bicycles. As mentioned above, this is a matter of personal taste, and “girly” girls will love the funky bright, sparkly colors. Whereas other girls love to get in the dirt preferring the idea of off-roading in the mud with their ladies mountain bicycle!
A quick tip though: do not be fooled by the colors. You do not want to end up with what is basically a man’s bike painted a pretty color. Look for bicycles with some of the woman-specific design changes in their frame construction, and you’ll have a much more comfortable time.

Garmin-Cervélo enjoyed the first day of their training camp in the Cayman Islands on Monday. The hybrid squad formed off the back of the Garmin-Transitions and Cervélo teams enjoyed a boat cruise and a dip in the sea after their first orientation meeting and 70 kilometre training ride.
For the likes of Thor Hushovd and Heinrich Haussler it was the first opportunity to meet with their new teammates, while riders like of David Millar and Christian Vande Velde enjoyed their third annual winter get-together, having been with the team since 2008.
While the mood was relaxed, there were some pressing matters to attend to with all of the riders asked to sign the team's mission statement.
Garmin and Cervélo are both vocal anti-doping teams and this shared view looks set to continue.
"It was all standard stuff. Everyone heard our team mission statement and we had them sign off on the anti-doping policy. Don Catlin will come to our camp in January but this was just everyone seeing the policy and signing off on it," Jonathan Vaughters told Cyclingnews.
"It basically says that you can't take any supplements unless they're approved by the team; that the riders can be tested 24/7 and the last part stresses our no needle policy and says that no injections or infusions of any kind can be permitted at any time or in any location. You can't inject yourself or have anyone inject you, period."
The camp goes on for another week with the riders set to make the most of the hospitality on offer from the Cayman tourist board, with scuba diving organised, along with an exhibition race on Friday.
"Tonight we've got a cocktail party with some of the sponsors and Gerard Vroomen gets in tomorrow," Vaughters added.
